Engine Crankshaft Sensors - What Are They? How Do They Work?
What do they do?
Determine the exact position and speed of the crankshaft.
How do they work?
ECM uses a digital or analog signal from the crankshaft sensors to ensure proper timing of fuel injection and ignition, as well as misfire monitoring.
Where are they located?
In the engine block, in or on the timing cover, near the harmonic balancer or flywheel.
Symptoms of failure
- Check engine light
- No start
