As modern engines become more efficient and compact, engine components such as spark plugs are required to become smaller too. Traditional spark plugs have been designed with a hexagonal socket style (See below). Due to newer vehicle manufacturer requirements, some spark plug manufacturers have created OE plugs that feature a Bi-Hex design. The Bi-Hex provides increased strength on compact spark plugs over the standard hexagonal design. Due to this unique design a specific long reach Bi-Hex spark plug socket is required for installation.
